Lets Talk Bookish

Tips For New Bloggers

Another Friday. That means another Let’s Talk Bookish post! I have been enjoying doing these posts! This is a Friday thing that was created by Rikky over @Enternity Books and hosted by Aria over @Book Nook Bits. You can check the September challenges here if this is something you are looking into.

What have you learned since you first started blogging?

Since I started, I have learned that consistency is key. I think that a schedule of when you are going to post will give you a good idea of what is best. Because things will come up that are out of your control so you will more than likely have to move things around.

What advice would you give to new bloggers?

Scheduling is your friend. Because if you know that you are having like a busy week for like Thanksgiving then blogging is going to be the last thing that you are going to want to do. So write and schedule those posts at least a week or two in advance.

Also, planning is your friend. I honestly think that using a planner has been the best thing that has helped. Because I can use a planner to help me plan what kind of content I want to post for like October when it’s going to be a lot of Blogtober stuff. And also gives me an idea of what I kind of want to post during the last week or so of the year.

Also, with things like blog tours, communicate with the person who is running it when something comes up and you can’t get the post up when you said you’re going to. I know I have had to tell Rachel who runs RaRaResources that something has come up and I might not get the post up on the date we agreed upon before the events happened. (IE winter storm Uri and me having caught COVID).

If you are like someone like me who knows that they will be using a tablet for your blogging, then I would look into investing in some sort of keyboard. It can either attach to the tablet or a wireless one that attaches through your Bluetooth.

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

Honestly the community. When I first started I wasn’t expecting anyone to want to follow me or anyone to read the posts that I put out. I also wasn’t expecting the community to be as welcoming as it is.

I think that the community they are very welcoming from what I have seen so far. Which is one of the reasons why I enjoy being a part of the book blogging community. I think that it is a great way to make friends who kind of write the same content as you or something outside of your comfort zone.

Also, being able to be creative. Because some of my favorite posts have been more creative. Not ones that fall into the niche. Even though I do try to bring it back to my niche of books. Which is something that I have been able to do.

What is the hardest part of blogging for you?

Planning content. I think figuring out what you want to post can be the hardest part. Even when you know what kind of content you want to post sometimes I still find myself hitting a wall of “I don’t know what I want to post” for like a Monday. I think that this can be a hard part.

Also, writing. Even though writing necessary isn’t the hard part starting the writing that is the hard part. I’ve learned the longer you put it off the more you don’t want to do something.

Is there anything you wish you’d done differently with your blog?

Not starting to do this sooner. But when if I started sooner, it might have just sat there untouched for years till I decided to give this a shot. Because I know that it was the case when I first started. It felt like I took a good 9 months off when I first started.

And not posting every day. Even though it helped with my stats, I wasn’t putting out content that I was putting out. I would feel guilty if I missed a day. Which is a lot to put on myself especially when this is supposed to be more of a hobby. I don’t feel as guilty if I don’t post on the days that I want to post but I am not going to force myself to post if I am not feeling it.

There are things that I am thinking about but if I am going to go threw with them, they won’t show up till late 2022 or early 2023. Because I want to make sure that it is something that I want to do before going threw with them.

There are my tips for new bloggers. I always enjoy doing these kinds of posts. Because I think that these can be tips that others can use. Regardless of how long you have been blogging. And I think finding struggles to overcome can be the best thing that a person can overcome when they become a blogger. I know my struggles are different from someone else’s.

If you have any tips for bloggers (new or old) I would love to know. Because your tips might help me and others. And I love hearing tips.
