Blurb:

Being the chosen one isn’t always a good thing…

Oscar Tundale is not a hero. Anxious, indecisive, and awkward, he can barely get through a normal day. Now he’s about to find out monsters are real. Oscar’s friends: brave, stubborn Zara, and hyperactive, paranoid Marcus, might help discover what hunts him, and unravel the truth about the handsome doctor he pines for. But only heroes can save the world, so maybe the best Oscar can hope for is to not end it by accident.

The LESSER KNOWN MONSTERS series is a dark queer fantasy featuring diverse characters on a found family adventure. Perfect for fans of horror and paranormal romance who seek LGBTQ+ heroes.

Summary:

This follows Oscar who at the beginning just wants to know why Demetri stopped talking to him after their date to the coffee house. No matter how much his friends try to tell him to move on it doesn’t do much good.

There is a little girl who comes into the hospital where Oscar works and pretty much said that Demetri was the one that hurt her and why she is in the hospital. But the more that Oscar and his friends learn about Demetri and what he is and what he does, they learn that this is the furthest thing from the truth of what the little girl told them.

All Demetri wanted was to keep Oscar safe from afar. But when your crush comes breaking into your home. It is kind of hard to keep that secret well… secret. Things get told and they find a way to give each other a shot.

Thoughts:

I adored this. How it was set up and how where after a few chapters you get something from Harry’s POV. I do think that based on what the reader learns, Harry is going to be more of a bigger character in books 2 and 3 where he was in the first book where he was learning of the monsters that caused him his fear and took one of his parents whom the reader learns about in part one.

I loved how this was split into parts. If there is one thing I love more than short chapters, it is when a book, particularly fantasy, has parts. I think that having both brought me to where all I wanted to do was read this book. I think that this was fantastically written and honestly, I can not wait to see how the story continues with books 2 and 3.

I don’t read a lot of fantasy. But there was something about this book that was pulling me, telling me that I needed to read this. And sometimes that can be very hit or miss. Especially when all you have are the content warnings and the summary. But I am glad that I was able to read this and fall in love with the world and the characters. I honestly found myself laughing at some of the things that Oscar and his friends were saying because they were that funny. I hope that this is a series that I fall in love with and find myself coming back to it.
