Summary:

This follows our main characters of Rhen and Harper. Harper has cerebral palsy and is just a normal girl from Washington DC. Rhen is the prince of Emberfall. Finishing the last season before starting one last season.

Harper was on wait, waiting for her brother Jacob to return from work. That’s when she sees Grey trying to steal a girl to try to break the curse again. But that’s when she jumps into action with a crowbar and both Harper and Grey go back to Emberfall.

Rhen wants to try to make this work. Considering that this is his last season. Knowing that this is his last season, Harper wants to try as well even if they start on the wrong foot. They do have an alliance between Emberfall and Disi as they try and fool everyone that Harper is a princess.

Harper just wants to go home to be her brother and her mother. Her mother is dying and wants to spend the last few days to weeks with her. But with her being taken over to Emberfall, she took her brother’s phone. That’s how she found out about the relationship between Jake and Noah.

The longer that Harper is in Emberfall, the longer that Harper gets to know both Grey and Rhen. The longer that she wants to want to prove that she can rule against Rhen. To be a united force. Even if it doesn’t break the curse.

The monster is something to be considered as both Harper and Rhen get closer. Especially if they are going to be a united front for all of Emberfall. Harper doesn’t know that Rhen is the monster until it is too late. And even then it’s not 100% sure if it was Harper or Grey that broke the curse at the end of the book.

Thoughts:

Even though I wanted this to be my last book of 2021 I still enjoyed the book nonetheless. The audio was fantastic and it brought the world and the characters to life. It might be a reread (or a relisten) because I loved the audio so much.

It even brought the monster to life. Even if it was a little bit on the creepy side listening to the narrator for Rhen do heavy breathing as though they were the monster. It caught me off guard because I wasn’t expecting it.

Even though I loved the audio, I still found myself rooting for Grey and Harper at the beginning because Grey was the person who seemed to TRY and get to know Harper. Even if it meant simplistic things like playing cards. And when Rhen wants to know how, Grey is like “how about knowing what she needs now than what she needs 5 weeks from now.”

I still love the fact that even though the relationship between Rhen and Harper was rocky at the beginning, Rhen and Harper still want to at the very least try to see what can be done. I love the relationship so much that I can’t wait to see what happens next with these two.
